Bada Ganpati temple is an ancient Temple of Indore. As the name suggests, this temple dedicated to the Lord Ganesha. The size of the statue of Lord Ganesha is very bigger than others, that’s why this temple is known as “Bada Ganpati”. The height of the idol of the Ganesha is about 25 feet from Crown to Foot. The idol’s of this temple is said to be one largets idol of the God in the world.

This temple is established in the year 1875 by the “Shree Pandit Narayan Dadheechi”. And the construction of this temple is done by the family members of the Holkar Dynasty (Ahilya Bai).

History of the Bada Ganpati

Bada Ganpati temple is an ancient temple of Indore. This temple is established in 19th Century by the “Shree Pandit Narayan Dadheechi”. The foundation stone of the temple was laid after a dream. Self Lord Ganesha appeared to Pt. Narayan Dadhich in the dream as a similar idol. After this, he decided to give shape to his dream. He was an ardent devotee of Ganesha. He got Ganesha’s statue constructed according to the idol seen in his dream. This temple is established in the year 1875 and completion is done in the year 1901 by the Pandit Dadheechi. After that, the construction is taking under the Queen Ahilya Bai.

Architecture of Temple

The construction of this temple is done by the Pandit Narayan Dadheechi and Ahilya Bai both. Lord Ganesha is seen here as a 25 feet high statue. Lime, stealth, sand, fenugreek, clay, gold, silver, iron, Ashtadhatu, Navratna have been used in the construction of this statue. Also, the water of all the Holy rivers has been used in the construction of this statue. The idol sits on a 4 feet high platform. The construction of the idol took about 3 years.

8 Days of “Chola Shringar”

It is said that it takes about 8 days for Ganesh to make up. This Chola is offered four times a year. In which Bhadrapada Sudi Chaturthi(भाद्रपद सुदी चतुर्थी), Kartik Badi Chaturthi(कार्तिक बदी चतुर्थी), Magha Badi Chaturthi(माघ बदी चतुर्थी) and Baisakh Badi Chaturthi(बैसाख बदी चतुर्थी ) are adorned with Chola and beautiful clothes. Approximately Sava mana ghee(50Kg) and vermilion are used in it.

Celebration of Festival Ganesha

The whole world celebrates the Festival of Ganpati. In the Bada Ganpati temple devotees come from far to take the blessing. But at the Ganpati Festival, a lost of devotees comes here and worshipped the Lord Ganesha.

As we all know that the Lord “Ganesha” is blessed with a boon that he worshipped first. Any of the auspicious work like marriage, birthday and others, then the devotees come first to this temple to apply tilak and invite the Lord “Ganesha”. Locals believe that the first invitation to all religious and cultural events to be held in Indore city and surrounding areas should be sent to Khajrana Ganesh, otherwise the events are considered incomplete. And even the purchase of a new car, bike, land, shop and property, the devotees come and perform worship and take the blessing of the Lord “Ganesha”.

Best To Visit On Wednesday

According to Hindu religion the day Wednesday is dedicated to the Lord “Ganesha”. So that the in Bada Ganpati Mandir special worship and aarti is held on Wednesday. A large number of the devotees are attained and visit on this day.

It is very important to know that on what time you have to visit the place. Its entry is free. It opens all the days of the week at morning 5:00 AM To 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM To 8:00 AM
