In this article we talk about the famous spot of Indore “Janapav”. Janapav is a mountain at an altitude of 881 from the sea level & highest peak of vindhayanchal range.
Janapav is a famous tourist place located on Indore-Mumbai highway near the village of Janapav Kuti in Mhow. The mountain is surrounded by dense forests. The place is quite popular among trekkers for its scenic beauty and adventurous routes.
Janapav is the birthplace of Lord Parshuram, about 45 kilometres from Indore. It is believed that after birth in Janapav, Lord Parashurama went to Mount Kailash to study. Where Lord Shankar gave him the knowledge of Archeology.
About Janapav
Janapav is the birthplace of Lord Parshuram. His temple is built here. Thousands of devotees come here every year on the occasion of Parashuram Jayanti.
Many important medicines used in Ayurveda are found on this hill. It is believed that Parasurama’s mother Renuka used to grow these medicines here. This is where the ashram of Rishi Jamdagni, who was Parashurama’s father, was built. As per some reports, even today, many Ayurvedic doctors from across the country arrive at the hill in search of herbs
Janapav has been prepared by the Forest Department in the shape of a resort and hill station. Now, those who come here will stop and see this beautiful place. According to Chief Conservator of Forests VK Verma, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had issued instructions to develop Janapav as a resort. In view of this, a guest house has been prepared on the vacant forest land here. The pool is also widened. A selfie zone has also been created.
Seven and a half rivers Choral, Moral, Karam, Ajnar, Gambhir, Chambal and Uteria rivers have emerged from Janapav hill. Some of these are found in the Yamuna and some in Narmada. From here, Chambal, Gambhir, Angered and Sumariya rivers and three and a half rivers Biram, Choral, Karam and Nekedeshwari originate. These rivers flow about 740 km and end up in Yamunaji and three and a half rivers in Narmada.
Why It is called “Janapav”
The temple built on the hill, the bumpy roads, the drains, the thick shrubs and the fear of wild animals, all reach “Janapav” after crossing it. It was very difficult to visit here in ancient times, so it is said that the name was named Janapav.
About Lord Parashuram
Lord Parashuram’s father was Bhriguvanshi Rishi Jamadagri and mother was Renuka. Sage Jamadagri was very ascetic and vigorous. The sages Jamadgri and Renuka had five sons, Rukmavan, Sukhen, Vasu, Vishwanavas and Parashuram.
It is believed that after birth in Janapav, Lord Parashurama went to Mount Kailash to study. Where Lord Shankar gave him the knowledge of Archeology. After completion of education gave the axe and bow. Using this axe Parashuram had devoured the “Kshatriya” 17 times from the earth
Once Renuka went to the river to bathe. Incidentally, King Chitraratha also came to bathe there. Renuka was fascinated by seeing the king. The sage learned this behaviour of the wife from the yogabal. He ordered his sons to behead the mother. But all son’s refused, only Parashurama beheaded the mother on the father’s orders. The angry father cursed the other sons for not having obeyed the commandment while asking Parashurama to ask for the boon. Then Parashuram asked for three boons.
– First, he said for the blessing of giving life to the mother again and the mother not remembering the whole incident of death.
– Second, he said for a boon to return the consciousness of his all four zero-consciousness brothers.
– Third, the boon is sought for themselves, according to which they are not defeated by any enemy or in war and they get a long life.
Father Bhriguvanshi Rishi Jamadagri became enraged after hearing such blessings of his son Parashurama and blessed his wish to be fulfilled.
Lord Shiv Temple at Janapav
Janapav has a very ancient Shiva temple, known as Janakeshwar Temple. It is said that Janakeshwar Shivalinga was consecrated by Lord Parshuram’s father Maharishi Jamadagni in Tretayuga. People also have faith in the ancient Brahmakund here.

Best Time to visit Janapava
Janapava is open all the days of the week for complete 24hrs but the preferred timing is 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM. You can visit this place in any season and time. But you must have to prefer to visit in the Monsoon Season in evening time which increases your enjoyment. Time required to visit Janapav: 02:00 Hrs
How to Reach Janapav
There are two ways to reach Janapav. One route goes through the hills, while the other is a road. You can reach here using private and rented vehicles. You have to take the AB Highway road to reach the Janapav near Manpur.
