Kamala Nehru Park is a zoological park, normally this park is known as “Chidiya Ghar” which is one of the famous tourist places of Indore. This park is situated in a natural environment with a beautiful view of the river.

Kamala Nehru Park is spread over an area of 4000 square feet. Locals also call this park as “Zoo”. The speciality of this park is that the park is naturally built. On one side of it flows the Khan River. This zoo has been dedicated to the reproduction, protection, and exhibition of animals and plants in their natural habitats.
Within the park, various species of birds and animals are available. Those creatures are reared in the park environment itself. In this park, there is also a children’s playing area. You can enjoy buggy rides, pony rides, elephant rides and camel rides here too.

Kamala Nehru Park is the largest zoological garden and oldest zoological park of the Madhya Pradesh. The zoo has a wide variety of animals and birds that have been brought from different parts of the world.
This zoo has been dedicated to the reproduction, protection, and exhibition of animals and plants in their natural habitats. Zoo’s efforts to breed White Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, Gharial, Himalayan Bear and White Peacock have been successful.
History Of Kamla Nehru Park
Kamala Nehru Park Indore was established in Navlakha area in only 17 acres of land, later in the year 1999, 32 acres of Quadibagh land was “acquired” by the zoo, so the present area of Indore Zoo is 51 acres. The total area of the Indore Zoo is full of greenery where various types of trees and other plants give the wild animals a natural feeling of the forest.
Species at Kamala Nehru Park
The zoo has a wide variety of animals and birds that have been brought from different parts of the world. Currently, the Indore Zoo has a wide variety of reptiles, mammals and birds. Herbivorous mammals include the Indian elephant, hippopotamus, blackbuck, nilgai, spotted deer, sambar deer and chinkara.
Indore Zoo has a variety of birds like Peacock, White Peacock, Sarus Crane, Lady Amherst’s pheasant, Egyptian Vulture, various species of Lovebird, Emu, Ostrich, Barn Owl, Turkey, Duck, Guinea Fowl, Rosy Pelican, Various species of Parakeet, Painted Stork, Black swan and Mute Swan.
Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Lion, Indian Leopard and Jungle Cat are the members of the cat family are available to this park. Also, have different-different spices of wild animals.
To increase in numbers of visitors, this zoo opened “snake house” in 2019. The idea behind building a separate snake house was to provide visitors with the opportunity to see and differentiate different species of snakes under one roof.
Currently there are different types of snakes. The venomous snakes include members of the “Big Four” (Indian crate, Russell’s viper, saw-scaled viper and Indian cobra) with the banded crate, bamboo pit viper and common good snake. Non-venomous snakes include the rat snake, checkered keelback and banded racer. And also have various species of Python.

A fee of ₹ 20 is applicable to enter the zoo for Indian Tourists while foreign nationals have to pay a sum of ₹ 100. On national holidays (Independence Day and Republic day) entry is free.
