Lal Baag Palace
Lal Baag Palace is one of the most spectacular buildings in Indore. It stands on the outskirts of the town, towards the southwest. It is a three-storey building on the bank of the River Khan. The palace was built by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar during 1886-1921.
It is spread over a vast area of 72 acres. This huge palace reflects the royal style of the Holkar family. This palace was used to be hosted by the Holkar royal family. This palace was used to be hosted by the Holkar royal family.
History Of Lal Baag Palace
As we know that “Lal Baag Palace” was built by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar. But the construction of the palace began in 1886 under Tukoji Rao Holkar II. It was carried out in three phases and the final phase was completed in 1921 under Tukoji Rao Holkar III. Due to its unique style of construction, it was one of the most stylish dwellings in India. The entrance hall on the ground floor is in marble and displays prehistoric artefacts. The first floor has a coin collection dating back to the Muslim period.
The palace was renovated again in 1921. Between 1936 and 1938, roses of 1600 species were planted in Lal Baag palace garden.
Architecture of Lal Baag Palace
Lal Bagh Palace is one of the most unique and famous palaces of Indore, whose architecture is very unique. In this palace, the lifestyle of Holkar rulers is clearly visible. The palace is also home to India’s most beautiful rose garden. The entrance to the palace is very beautiful.
This palace is spread over 72 acres on the banks of river Saraswati. It has a four-storey palace built on four acres. It was given to Mr. Harvey, a famous horticulturist. He built a rose circle by planting big trees and ornamental plants. A beautiful Baradari was also made in this garden.
The gate of this magnificent palace spread over a vast area is a replica of the gate of Buckingham Palace, England. Holkar Maharaj impressed by Buckingham Palace and built a similar gate for Lal Baag. This gate is made of bead(raw iron) metal.
The kitchen was constructed in a very different way to cook food for the guests at the Palace. The kitchen of the palace was constructed at the other end of the Khan river and a tunnel was constructed to bring food from kitchen to the palace. To keep the food warm, another tunnel was built above the tunnel, in which hot water was filled. Due to the hot water, the food remained hot from one end to the other.
The palace has a wooden floor, under which there is a spring, when it used to dance on this floor, it used to bounce. This room is known as Ballroom of palace.
The architecture and decoration of this Lal Baag Palace reflect the highly westernized outlook and aesthetic sensibility of the later Holkars.

The main gates of the Palace are a replica of the gates of Buckingham Palace which is situated in London. The gates carry the Holkar state emblem which defines “He who tries will succeed”. The daunting gates of the Lal Bagh Palace are unique in Asia.
The entire campus has a total area of 28 acres and the campus has a huge rose garden which is one of the best in the country.
Charming decor in the style of Versailles Palace uses Italian marble columns, grand chandeliers, Persian carpets and ceiling-flying nymphs that provide a wonderful experience for tourists.
The daunting gates of the Lal Bagh Palace are unique in Asia.
The rooms of the palace have now been restored and furnished and have been converted into a museum. Much of the furniture and adornment has been seen to belong to the Late Regency and early Georgian style.

Best Time to Visit Lal Baag Palace
It is good to know that when you have to visit any palace. Lal Baag Palace open all the days of weeks except on Monday. And the timings of open is 10 AM To 5 PM only. The time 1 hrs is required to visit the whole Palace.

The location of the place is quite accessible. It is located close to the road with the same name (Lal Bagh Road). you can reached here by public transport(rickshaws, city bus etc.) and personal vehicles also. Also have a good arrangement of two-four wheeler parking.
