Patalpani is a waterfall ( झरना ) near Indore city in the Mhow, the distance is around 40 KM from the Indore main railway station. The waterfall attract everybody due to its beautiful green sceneries, specially in the monsoon season. It is one of most popular picnic and travel destination in Indore. There are many photo-shoot and selfie point all around for photographic lovers. The Patal Pani waterfall is on the Choral river, the height of the fall is approx 150 feet.

Waterfall end in a kund and according to the local myth considered very pavitre. There is one important fact about the kund, the depth of the kund is still not known. Many times initiative taken to declare the depth of the kund by the local authorities but unable to detect the depth point of the kund.

As the depth of the kund is very high, may be a reason behind the name of the spot is patal pani. पाताल ( Patal ) is a hindi word for underground world according to the indian mythology and पानी Pani meaning water in hindi. The myth behind the name is “पाताल तक जाता है इस जलप्रपात ( Waterfall ) का पानी”.

Warning: The Waterfall may surprise you by random water flow during rainy seasons. The waterfall is dangerous sometimes, specially in the rainy season. The waterflow in the fall increase drastically due to rain nearby, sometimes waterflow in the fall increase even 10 times. We will warn you, be careful specially during the rain. The Waterfall is having bed history of many such accidents and caused death also. Enjoy the Waterfall with caution.
